Early the morning after our tour with Audrey, I found myself standing silent and as still as I could muster, holding the tin in my hand, making sure I was in prime pie launching position. Jaime had run downstairs to get a bottle of wine from the cellar, so I knew he’d be back up any moment.

Time for my newest prank.

I nearly laughed to myself, eyeing the light and fluffy whipped cream pie in my hand. I had seen it in the store when I stopped in to grab a few things to go with dinner tonight and couldn’t resist.

Nothing beats a classic.

Hearing Jaime’s shoes on the hardwood, I shifted so I could nail him right as he came around the corner.

Only, when I tossed my hand up, pie flying toward a face... it wasn’t Jaime’s.

Oh, motherfucking hell!

“Oh my God, Drey! I’m so sorry!” I rushed out as her hands came up to pry the disposable pie tin from her face. Jack was on the other side of the pool room, his eyes wide in horror when he realized what just happened.

“What did you do?” I heard Jaime ask, a string of muttered curses reaching my ears when he saw the answer.

“I thought she was you, and it’s been a good month or two since my last prank!” I exclaimed, panicking as she wiped the cream from her eyes.

This hadn’t been the first time a prank had been witnessed by a female guest, and every single one had disapproved and thought less of me afterward, but this was the first to backfire, missing my intended target and landing on the woman I was interested in. The longer she took to say anything, the more anxious I got. This is it, my brain and heart both agreed. There goes your shot with Drey. Realizing I was standing there like an idiot, I sprang into action, grabbing a towel from the wet bar.

“I’m really so, so sorry,” I tried to tell her once more when I came back over, towel in hand. Thankfully, she could see, having cleared the whipped cream from her eyes. If I hadn’t felt so filled with worry, I would have found her pretty face covered in a layer of whipped cream funny.

She didn’t say anything for another long moment, her finger swiping down her cheek. My brows drew together when she popped the dollop of dessert into her mouth before bursting into laughter, complete with an adorable snort I knew I had to hear again. I finally relaxed.

“Holy shit, I look ridiculous,” she said through her giggles, pointing to one of the mirrors hanging on the far wall. “Thank you, Jayden. I’ve needed a laugh after the last few days.”

“You’re... you’re not pissed at me?” I asked, hypnotized by her lips as she continued to eat the pie from her face.

“Nah, my besties and I have gotten into a lot of shenanigans over the years. A little whipped cream pie is nothing, though maybe next prank could be a little less.
